I believe that providing families with clear, professional, and thorough information for IEP meetings is an important part of ensuring that all students with disabilities have equitable access to fair and appropriate education. The IEP team is designed to be a collaborative group of stakeholders who come together to create the child’s plan. Caregivers and students are supposed to be the most prioritized voices in the room, but, from my experience, families (and teachers) are often steamrolled by district representatives who don’t know the student. This is especially true in urban/Title 1 schools where families frequently don’t have the resources to push back when districts cross the line or provide misinformation. Last year, I began providing families with binders that contained the information from IEP meetings and providing infographics to make information more accessible/digestable. I wanted to be able to adjust the infographics since laws are different in different states and so that I could translate the infographic as needed. This app was helpful because I could input the information that I wanted and could play with different styles. I experimented with making an infographic of the Procedural Rights and Safeguards that we’re required to give caregivers annually. I would provide this infographic as a preview to the larger document (it’s 40 pages).
Here’s how to use it:
Visit https://infogram.com
Sign up (you can choose a free basic plan or you can upgrade if you have multiple projects)
From your library, you have the option of using a template, charts, maps, and other tools, including using AI
If you’re using AI, click on “create with AI"
Write your prompt in the prompt box. You can upload files. I added the pdf of the procedural rights and safeguards
From there, you can ask AI to make some tweaks, or edit yourself. You can add graphics, maps, change the font, etc.
You can either invite collaborators or create a separate team project
